Handling Photo and Video Storage in StoriiCare

Edited

This article clarifies how photos and videos are handled when using the StoriiCare app on mobile devices, particularly regarding whether media files are stored on the device or within the app.

Uploading Photos and Videos via StoriiCare

When staff members use the StoriiCare app on their phones to capture and upload photos or videos, it’s essential to understand how these media files are stored:

1. Capture Mode (Take Photo/Video Directly in the App or mobile browser):

When you use the “Take Photo” or “Record Video” option within the StoriiCare app or mobile browser, the media file is captured and uploaded directly into the StoriiCare platform.

Important: The captured media does not get stored on the device’s photo library or camera roll. It is uploaded directly to StoriiCare and stored securely within the platform.

2. Uploading from Device Library:

If staff choose to upload media files from their device’s existing photo library or camera roll, the original file will remain on the device unless manually deleted by the user. The selected file will also be uploaded to the StoriiCare platform.

Why This Matters

This distinction is important for maintaining privacy and ensuring that sensitive or personal media files related to patient care are not inadvertently stored on personal devices. By using the “Take Photo” feature, organizations can help mitigate the risk of unauthorized access to patient-related media files.

Best Practices

To ensure compliance with privacy standards and organizational policies:

Train staff to use the “Take Photo” or “Record Video” option within the StoriiCare app or browser for capturing patient-related media.

Inform staff that using the direct capture method prevents media files from being stored on their devices, thus enhancing security.

Monitor and Audit regularly to ensure that these best practices are being followed.
